Spring Tour

I want to apologize to Paul Marcello for not printing a article on the great tour to Chippewa Falls, WI he led us on  in May. I just didn’t have enough space because of the 25th Anniversary Edition articles.

We started out in Hudson, WI after having breakfast. We had 14 members on the tour. Jim Gillespie came and had breakfast and visited with us ,but did not go on the tour.

Duane and Linda Warren had some trouble with their car when we were going to start the tour. The alternator quit working. Duane limped his car into Hudson, WI to a NAPA store and bought a rebuilt alternator and then installed it himself. Duane and Linda later joined us at the first tour site, Leinenkugel’s Brewery. The tour at the brewery was very interesting and informative. Of course some of the members had to sample the product and give their opinion.

After the tour we were joined by Tom and Donna Wall of Chippewa Falls, WI. in their 1940 LaSalle convertible. They belong to the Cadillac LaSalle Club. Tom had contacted Paul Marcello before the tour and asked him if we would be interested in touring his collection of cars. Paul Marcello immediately jumped at the chance to tour the collection.  We all toured into town for lunch. The Walls made reservations for us at a restaurant in town. The food was great.

After lunch we then proceed to Tom and Donna Wall’s residence.  They have a beautiful home situated on the lake. Tom has three garages full of cars. The first garage had four cars sitting in it. The cars were a 1940 LaSalle Sedan, 1928 LaSalle, 1919 Winton and another car that was covered up. All these cars were in just great shape. Tom also showed us two new Winton engines he had made for him by a company in Detroit, MI. He then showed us his newest garage he just completed. This garage is almost three stories high. “This is a dream garage”. It has everything you would want, except a paint booth. City officials wouldn’t allow that because he’s on the lake. The garage is heated, air conditioned and humid statically controlled. In this garage he had two Winton cars, a 1911 and a 1912. These cars are in extremely great shape. Tom also has several other cars that he shares with his two sons. Tom said “the most fun he has with these cars is driving them”. He said he drives them all over the country.

I want to extend our thanks to Tom and Donna for being such gracious hosts and showing us their car collection.
