All GM Show, MN State Fair Grounds,
St. Paul, MN.
Club Representative, Duane Warren

July 2003
This year’s show started out a little iffy. Parts
of the Metro area had some rain showers, but by about 8:30AM it stopped raining.
It stayed cloudy and cool through the morning hours. Around noontime we had a
slight shower. After that it cleared up and warmed up.
This
year the show at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds was held on Machinery Hill.
The reason for this is that the racetrack, where the shows use to be held is no
longer there; they are going to build a permanent stage out from the grandstand
area. What a waste. The racetrack was a great attraction for the fair. My
opinion is it should have been used several times during the summer.
We had
about 28 Cadillac’s and LaSalle’s. Some of these Cadillac’s were
ambulances and hearses.
Earl
Faulkner Sr. let us use his large tent this year. This was great because it
protected us from the elements and was a great gathering place for serving up
the food for the members and for sitting around and telling all those great car
stories. It also saved us some money, we didn’t have to pay rent to the fair
for use of a tent. I want to thank Earl Faulkner Sr. for the use of the tent.
Machinery
Hill area is a big improvement over the racetrack for showing cars. It’s much
easier to walk around and look at all the different cars. You can also park your
car in the shade.
Everyone
that took place in this event had a great time talking cars and viewing all the
great cars.
Ken
Lancaster, 1959 Cadillac convertible, won a first place trophy for open cars.
Dick Ducharme, 1984 Cadillac Eldorado convertible, won a second place trophy for
open cars. A person with a 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVille (red) won a first place
trophy for closed cars. He was not a Cadillac LaSalle Club/NorthStar Region
member. I’m Sorry, but I didn’t get his name. Maybe he will join our club.
Jan
Gerecke was busy selling a couple of our Cadillac clocks and some Cadillac
shirts. She also handed out several membership forms to people to try and sign
them up as members.
We left
there around 4:00PM after we all helped take down the tent and collect up the
information signs.
